in Brittany with a special touch.…
Brittany (Bretagne), is located on the north western
tip of France and is surrounded on three sides by a long
(1110km) and varied coastline. There are rugged cliffs dotted
with lighthouses, wide estuaries, islands and islets where
bird life is protected, and picturesque harbors with strong
maritime traditions. The climate is mild because of the
Gulf Stream and many white sandy beaches and pretty coves
make for wonderful swimming, wind surfing and scuba diving.
The coastal area around Vannes has as much sunshine (in
terms of number of days per year) as Toulouse in the south
of France. Sailing in the bay of Morbihan round its many
islands is only a 40 minute drive from Guemene Sur Scorff.

Brittany
prides itself on a distinctly different identity from the
rest of France. Bretons have their own ancient traditions,
language, customs, cathedrals and huge Celtic festivals:
the region only officially became part of France in the
1500s. Brittany actually maintained its independence until
the 16th century, and retained its own parliament up till
the French Revolution. Brittany is the major site for megaliths
in Europe and possibly the world. Most of the megaliths
(dolmens, tumulus, and menhirs) were constructed between
4500 and 200 BC. With almost 3000 standing stones spread
over several sites, there is much to be explored. It is
often described as a land of myths and legends and inland
Brittany also has 600 kilometers of canals and rivers with
over 350 kilometers of cycle paths to explore.
